Three suspects arrested in connection to Lexington shooting that left 35-year-old dead

Three people have been charged in connection to a recent homicide on Chinoe Road in Lexington, according to city police.

Alexis Compton, 24, was arrested Wednesday and charged with complicity to murder. She also is facing charges unrelated to the homicide.

Five days earlier, Jeremiah Mitchell, 20, was arrested by the US Marshals Service. He is charged with murder, four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and second-degree criminal mischief.

Mitchell is awaiting extradition to Fayette County from Wayne County, Mich., according to police. Both Compton and Mitchell were featured as the Bluegrass Crime Stoppers’ most wanted people of the week on December 12, 2024.

The third suspect, 22-year-old Yas-Ree Collins, was arrested Dec. 6, 2024, by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. She has been charged with complicity to murder and is awaiting extradition to Fayette County from Warren County, Ohio.

The fatal shooting happened Nov. 30, 2024 at Exotic Cutzz Barbershop, according to court documents. Gregory Williams, 35, was found with a gunshot wound, and he died later at a hospital.

Compton’s arrest warrant says video surveillance showed Williams sleeping near the front door of the barbershop before the shooting. Four other people were also captured on the surveillance footage, including Compton, Collins and someone described as the shooting suspect.

The footage showed the shooting suspect and Williams having a conversation before Williams got up off a bench and walked toward the back of the barbershop, according to court documents. While walking away, the shooting suspect pulled out a gun from his sweatshirt pocket and fired one shot at Williams, hitting him in the back.

The suspect then hopped into a Kia SUV, driven by Compton, and they both fled the scene, according to court documents.

Another vehicle, a Kia K5, was also present during the shooting. Court documents say the vehicle is registered to Collins, and video surveillance showed Collins driving the vehicle and fleeing the scene after the shooting. Video surveillance also showed Collins handing the gun over to the shooting suspect.

Compton and the shooting suspect were already at the barbershop in the SUV before Collins and the other person showed up in the K5 before the shooting, according to court documents.

All three suspects were identified by police’s real-time intelligence center and other investigative techniques, police said.

Compton is scheduled to be arraigned in Fayette District Court Thursday, according to records. She’s being held on a $500,000 bond for the complicity to murder charge and a $20,000 bond for trafficking methamphetamine, according to jail records.
