Two 18-year-olds charged with rape after sexual assault in University of Kentucky dorm
Two 18-year-old men have been arrested after a sexual assault that happened inside a University of Kentucky dorm hall, according to court documents.
Angus Thompson, of Louisville, and Addison Adkins, of Lexington, have both been charged with first-degree rape. Court documents say they engaged in forcible sexual intercourse inside Ball Hall on Feb. 18.
Adkins has also been charged with second-degree strangulation, according to court records. UK said the two suspects turned themselves in Monday.
Thompson is still a student at UK but is suspended, while Adkins is no longer enrolled, according to UK. Neither suspect is allowed on campus.
“We want to make it unmistakably clear: This behavior is unacceptable and has no place on our campus,” UK said in a statement. “It does not reflect the values we hold as a community and falls far below the standards of conduct we set for our students.”
The university said its campus police learned about the incident four days later, and the two suspects are known to the victim. Thompson’s arrest warrant says he admitted it was “probably scary” for the victim during the assault.
Adkins’ arrest warrant says Thompson described Adkins as aggressive and heavily intoxicated during the assault.
Thompson and Adkins were booked into the Fayette County Detention Center Monday, according to jail records. Thompson is being held on a $25,000 bond while Adkins posted his $25,000 bond and has been released.
Thompson and Adkins are scheduled to appear in Fayette District Court Tuesday afternoon for an arraignment.
