Second suspect in Lexington fatal shooting arrested in Detroit, charged with murder
A second suspect connected to Lexington’s latest homicide was arrested Wednesday, according to the Lexington Police Department.
Marquise Clark, 26, was arrested in Detroit by the US Marshals Service, police said. Clark is charged with murder, and he is being held at the Detroit Detention Center awaiting extradition back to Fayette County.
“The Lexington Police Department would like to thank the US Marshals Service for their assistance in helping locate and arrest Mr. Clark,” police said in a statement.
The shooting happened just after midnight March 11. Police previously said 24-year-old Tai’ Maricus Warner was found dead with a gunshot wound on the 400 block of Ohio Street.
The homicide happened just hours after another fatal shooting in Lexington that left a 19-year-old man dead.
A few days later, 32-year-old Phillip McElroy was arrested and charged with the Ohio Street killing. McElroy’s arrest warrant says security footage captured two masked and gloved suspects, one of whom was McElroy, fleeing the scene of the shooting.
The footage also captured the suspects saying “drop the gun, go in the house” in a location where police found a handgun, according to court documents. The gun matched a shell casing found near Warner.
McElroy is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center on a $750,000 bond and is scheduled to next appear in Fayette District Court next Monday for a preliminary hearing, according to court documents. Clark will be scheduled for an arraignment after he is extradited to Fayette County.
The shooting was the fifth homicide in Lexington so far this year, according to police data. Four of the homicides ended in an arrest.
