US Marshals capture KY inmate who was on the run after second escape attempt
A Kentucky inmate with a history of escaping custody was recaptured by authorities in Lexington Tuesday, according to Kentucky State Police.
Jeffrey Harrison, 43, had been on the run for about two weeks after slipping away from the Estill County Courthouse July 8. State police said the U.S. Marshals Service apprehended Harrison just before 3 p.m.
Harrison was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center. State police said he is charged with second-degree escape.
Court records show Harrison was scheduled to appear in Estill Circuit Court on July 8 for two separate criminal cases. He was also serving time for a conviction of first-degree promoting contraband.
It wasn’t Harrison’s first time running away from authorities.
Harrison also escaped from the Three Forks Regional Jail in Beattyville in late May by posing as his brother. He was found in Lexington almost two weeks later by state police.
On June 20, Harrison was indicted for the escape from Three Forks Regional Jail. Two others — Harrison’s brother, 46-year-old James Harrison, and 28-year-old Frances Stamper — were also indicted for complicity to second-degree escape in the incident.
Court documents say the three suspects devised the escape plan together.
