Victims of Lexington double homicide shot each other during argument, police say

The two men killed this week in a shooting near Valley Park in Lexington shot each other during an argument, according to city police.

The shooting happened Monday morning in the 1200 block of Village Drive, near Valley Park. Antwone Sanders, 50, and Roderick Clay, 54, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

Personal crimes detectives investigated the shooting and determined that Sanders and Clay were in an argument and shot each other, according to police.

“No other parties are believed to have been involved in the shooting, and detectives are in the process of closing the investigation,” said Lexington police Sgt. Bige Towery.

The fatal shooting marked the 18th and 19th homicides of 2025 in Lexington, according to police data. It is also the first homicide in nearly a month after a 19-year-old man was shot and killed at a home near downtown Lexington on Sept. 30.

As of this time last year, there were 17 homicides in Lexington, according to police data.
