A Lexington man is facing several charges after he allegedly intentionally started a fire at an occupied hotel.

The fire happened Dec. 14 at the Days Inn & Suites hotel on North Broadway. Court documents say Christopher Britt, 33, intentionally started the fire, and there were at least 44 people inside the building at the time, according to court documents.

Sgt. Bige Towery with the Lexington Police Department said the police and fire departments were dispatched to the hotel at 8:57 p.m. for a report of a smoke alarm going off. The fire department said a patient reported having difficulty breathing, and was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire department extinguished the fire, and no other injuries were reported, Towery said. No information was immediately available on fire damage to the hotel.

Britt is charged with first-degree arson and 44 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. The address on his arrest citation was 101 General Delivery, indicating he was homeless.

He was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center Saturday, according to jail records. His bond is set at $100,000.

Britt is scheduled to be arraigned in Fayette District Court Monday, Dec. 22.
