A Lexington man was indicted on a murder charge Tuesday for the shooting death of another man in February.

Jayronn Montero Nickerson, 22, is charged with murder and with being a persistent felony offender in the death of Vincenzo Happy on Feb. 9, according to circuit court documents. Happy, 23, was shot while sitting in his car at a shopping center on Lima Drive. Police have said that 10 to 12 shots hit the car. He died hours later at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

According to court documents, a witness identified Nickerson, who goes by the street name "Project," as the person who shot into Happy's black Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Court documents did not name the witness.

After the shooting, Lexington police obtained an arrest warrant for Nickerson. He was arrested in May by the U.S. Marshals Service in Michigan.

Nickerson pleaded not guilty during a May 19 arraignment in district court. He was being held in the Fayette County jail on a $505,000 full cash bond. Nickerson's next court appearance is set for July 31.
