Watch Kentucky singer Holly Forbes win battle round on ‘The Voice’ with ‘magical’ tone

Holly Forbes followed up an impressive performance in her debut on “The Voice” to keep her dream alive.

After seeing all four coaches turn their chairs for her during her blind audition last month, the Kentucky native went up against Wyatt Michael during Monday’s battle round.

Viewers only got a snippet of their performance of the 1963 soul jazz song “Sunny,” but it was enough for Forbes to show off the vocals that the coaches were fighting over in the previous round.

Kelly Clarkson chose Forbes as the winner of the battle to advance her to the knockout round later this month.

“I ended up going with Holly just because there was something so magical about her tone,” Clarkson said. “My heart was kind of pulling a tiny bit that way. I really wanted to capitalize off of how captivating she is as a vocalist.”

Forbes said during the previous round she works as a caregiver for patients with autism and other developmental and intellectual disabilities. A native of Catlettsburg in Boyd County, Forbes was among the seven singers in the blind auditions to have all four coaches turn their chairs.

Forbes is one of two Kentucky contestants to advance to the knockout round, joining Louisville native Kinsey Rose.
