Deaf puppy with epilepsy was ‘in the most dangerous’ place when saved. She needs a home
A puppy with special needs is looking for a home after she was rescued from — what could have been — a perilous situation in Indiana.
Annette, a terrier, pitbull mix, is a vibrant pup who is currently thriving after a rough start in life, the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said.
“At just 7 months old, little Annette found herself in the most dangerous of places—a busy stretch of 465,” the shelter said in a Dec. 16 Facebook post. “But fate intervened when a kind-hearted trucker stopped to save her. No other shelter would take her in, but we couldn’t turn her away—and thank goodness for that.”
To add even more danger to the situation she was in, Annette couldn’t hear all the commotion going on around her on the road.
“You see, Annette is deaf and has epilepsy, but in the safety of our care, this precious girl has started to blossom. She is in a safe place but she needs a permanent home. Annette is now 8 months old and is becoming the most loving and resilient little girl,” the shelter said.
According to her online pet profile, being deaf doesn’t hold back the little one. She’s potty trained and crate trained, which means she’s definitely a good girl at her foster home.
Her loves, according to her profile, include:
Playtime
Daycare
Fetch
Sharing (her toys and water bowl)
She’s starting to understand hand signals and “communicates her excitement with adorable, vocal ‘talking,’” according to the Facebook post about her.
She’s also learning from other dogs and follows their communication cues.
“Annette thrives in a calm, structured environment where she can mirror the energy of the dogs and people around her. Continued trips to daycare, such as Paws & Play, would help her grow and socialize even more,” her profile says.

Fishers is about a 20-mile drive northeast from Indianapolis.
