A dog owner abandoned her pit bull inside a park’s porta-potty, and the pup wasn’t discovered for two days, Michigan authorities say.

The pit bull was “freezing” when a worker discovered him in a portable toilet at Creasey Bicentennial Park “a few weeks ago,” Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye said in a Jan. 19 post on Facebook.

Renye said the dog’s feces and urine were spread throughout the porta-potty. The dog, named Hank, did not have any water and had been left with just a small bowl of food.

Authorities learned a 25-year-old woman abandoned Hank in the porta-potty because her landlord would not accept pit bulls into her home, according to the police chief.

The woman, who police did not identify, was arrested on an animal cruelty charge, Renye said.

“Remember, you chose the animal, the animal did not choose you,” the chief said in the video.

The wife of the man who found the dog said Hank is now living with them and is thriving in his new home.

“He is very much loved and taken care of now,” Jenna Kross said in a comment. “He was super skinny, underweight when my husband found him. We are getting weight back on him. He is doing good and happy.”

Grand Blanc is about a 60-mile drive northwest from Detroit.
