A boater angry about a wake near his vessel pointed a firearm at nearby kids and threatened to shoot them, Florida police reported.

The encounter took place Saturday, Oct. 4, on the Intracoastal Waterway, New Smyrna Beach police said in an Oct. 7 news release.

Several youths told officers that a boater pointed a gun at them and shouted threats to shoot them after they created a wake near his vessel, police said.

He was later seen loading his boat onto a trailer at a boat ramp, and officers working with Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies found his vehicle and trailer outside a home, police said.

Officers arrested Christopher Evensen on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon, police said.

New Smyrna Beach is about a 55-mile drive northeast from Orlando.
