2 people taken to hospital after being rear-ended by marked KY State Police vehicle

Two individuals were transported to the hospital Tuesday after they were rear-ended by a man driving a Kentucky State Police marked patrol car.

The collision happened around 5 p.m. along KY 80 in Knott County, according to a Wednesday news release from KSP. State police said Anthony Bersaglia was driving a marked patrol vehicle when he hit the rear bumper of another car, occupied by a woman and a child.

It’s unclear if Bersaglia is a trooper with the agency, and a state police spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request to clarify. Older media reports identify an Anthony Bersaglia as a commercial vehicle enforcement officer with the agency.

The two individuals in the other vechile were taken to a hospital for possible minor injuries, state police said. Bersaglia was not injured.

Bersaglia was driving from Post 13 to his garage for vehicle maintenance at the time of the crash, state police said.

KSP is investigating the collision.
