The college basketball regular season is complete, and Kentucky has secured its seed for the Southeastern Conference Tournament in Nashville.
With an 88-79 victory over Arkansas in Fayetteville on Saturday afternoon, John Calipari’s Wildcats (21-10, 12-6 SEC) will be the 3 seed in the league tournament.
Alabama and Texas A&M secured the top two seeds in the SEC Tournament before Saturday’s games.
As the 3 seed, Kentucky will get a “double bye” into the quarterfinals and tip off its postseason next Friday night. The Cats’ game is officially listed as a 9 p.m. start (on SEC Network), but the preceding game won’t begin until 7 p.m., so UK likely won’t actually start playing until around 9:30 p.m.
The Cats will face the winner of Thursday night’s late game in the quarterfinals. That matchup will pit the 6 seed against the winner of Wednesday night’s 11-14 game.
Vanderbilt will be the 6 seed, Georgia will be the 11 seed, and Louisiana State will be the 14 seed.
The SEC Tournament bracket won’t be finalized until after Saturday’s games.
If Kentucky wins its quarterfinal matchup, the Cats will play around 3:30 p.m. next Saturday on ESPN. If the bracket holds, Texas A&M (22-8, 14-3 SEC) would be UK’s opponent in the semifinals. Kentucky beat Texas A&M 76-67 in Rupp Arena on Jan. 21.
The SEC title game is set for Selection Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN.
