They say numbers never lie, so here’s the truth.
The first half of the Kentucky men’s basketball team’s season-opening win over Nicholls was a tough watch.
If you stuck around, you got to see significant improvement — if perhaps not everything you hoped for — in the Wildcats’ 77-51 win.
After a first half in which it shot 32.3% from the floor and hit 2 of 16 3-point shots, the offense found some rhythm (emphasis on some) after halftime. No. 9 Kentucky (1-0) shot 61.3% in the second half, knocking down 5 of 11 from 3-point range.
The Cats finished 12 of 22 from the free-throw line.
Collin Chandler sparked that shot-making, finishing the second half 4 for 4 from the floor and 3 for 3 from long distance. His two-point make was a rim-rocking one-handed dunk. Chandler finished with 15 points to lead all scorers. Teammate Otega Oweh added 13 points, Jasper Johnson 11 and Denzel Aberdeen 10.
Aberdeen, who was questionable to play with an injury, added five rebounds and six assists in 23 minutes off the bench.
