Kentucky’s pipeline to Michigan has begot another standout football recruit.

Maxwell Hairston, a three-star defensive back out of West Bloomfield, Mich., committed to the Wildcats on Monday, his father’s birthday. His announcement came exactly one month after he first reported that UK had offered him.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound senior chose Kentucky from a final seven also consisting of Purdue, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Kansas, Rutgers and Washington State.

Hairston is considered the No. 129 cornerback in the country and 39th-best prospect in Michigan, according to 247Sports. He is the third defensive back to commit as part of UK’s 2021 recruiting class, joining Adrian Huey (Nashville) and Jordan Lovett (North Hardin High School). He is the 15th player overall to choose Kentucky this recruiting cycle.

Hairston is the seventh player from Michigan to commit to UK since 2018.

UK over the weekend lost out on four-star recruit Monkell Goodwine, a Maryland defensive end who’s on the cusp of being a top-100 prospect. The Wildcats were thought to be Goodwine’s No. 2 option after Alabama, to whom he committed Saturday.
