The University of Kentucky football team climbed to No. 11 in the latest Associated Press poll released Sunday.
It matches the Wildcats’ highest ranking during Mark Stoops’ tenure; the 2018 team climbed to No. 11 following a 15-14 win at Missouri that pushed its record to 7-1. UK the next week lost to Georgia at home, 34-17, in a game that decided the SEC Eastern Division race. That UK team finished the season ranked No. 12 in the country.
Georgia overtook Alabama for the No. 1 spot following the Crimson Tide’s loss to Texas A&M on Saturday. Alabama fell to No. 5 in the poll. Also ranked from the SEC were: No. 13 Mississippi, No. 17 Arkansas, No. 20 Florida and No. 21 Texas A&M.
Georgia is ranked No. 1 in the regular season for the first time since 1982.
Kentucky also checked in at No. 11 in the newest USA Today/AFCA Coaches poll, released about an hour prior to the AP poll.
CBS ranked Kentucky as the No. 8 team in its latest “power rankings.” ESPN had UK at No. 9 in its own power rankings.
