UK men’s basketball is hosting a ton of top recruits this fall. Boogie Fland is the first.
This fall, the Kentucky men’s basketball program is set to play host to a plethora of top recruits.
Across both the classes of 2024 and 2025, the Wildcats will be welcoming a ton of four-star and five-star talent to Lexington.
October’s Big Blue Madness — the annual kickoff event for the UK men’s and women’s basketball seasons — will be the anchoring event for several visits.
But the fall festivities begin this weekend, when five-star combo guard Boogie Fland finally takes his long-awaited official visit to UK.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Fland’s weekend visit, which begins Friday.
Boogie Fland recruitment history
Fland is ranked as a five-star prospect in the class of 2024 by every major recruiting service.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Fland is ranked as the No. 9 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class, and the second-best combo guard in that group.
Over the summer, Fland released a list of his top eight schools: Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, St. John’s and UConn.
By the end of September, Fland will have been on the campuses of all eight of those schools.
Fland has previously taken official visits to Indiana, Michigan and North Carolina, as well as unofficial visits to both St. John’s and UConn.
In September, Fland will stop by the final three schools.
Following his visit to Kentucky this weekend, Fland will visit Alabama (Sept. 22) and Maryland (Sept. 29).
Fland earned his scholarship offer from the Wildcats in summer 2022, and has had plenty of attention from the Wildcats ever since.
This has included UK head coach John Calipari traveling to White Plains, New York, an outer suburb located about 30 miles north of New York City, on several occasions to watch Fland at Archbishop Stepinac High School and visit with Fland and his family.
Calipari has also traveled overseas to watch Fland play in international competition: The combo guard was part of a gold medal-winning U.S. youth squad last summer in Spain.
Additionally, Calipari and the Kentucky coaching staff have been fixtures on the travel basketball circuit watching Fland play with his PSA Cardinals team on the Nike EYBL circuit.
And the Wildcats’ leadership group has been treated to some high-quality basketball.
Fland averaged 15.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game on the Nike EYBL circuit in 2023, and he led his PSA Cardinals squad to a run to the quarterfinals at Peach Jam this summer.
