Kentucky’s high school record for TD passes has fallen. And the new king isn’t done yet.
With five touchdown passes against Allen County-Scottsville last week, Paducah Tilghman’s Jack James became the KHSAA’s all-time leader in career passing TDs with 147, surpassing the mark of 144 set by Caldwell County’s Elijah Sindelar (2011-14).
He’s also passed up such names as Tim Couch of Leslie County (133) and Corey Robinson of Lone Oak (132).
Robinson happens to be the Blue Tornado’s offensive coordinator and went on to play for Troy State, the same school James committed to earlier this year.
A fifth-year senior, James is closing in on a number of other passing records too, including attempts, completions and yardage where he ranks fourth (815), fourth (1,354), and fifth (11,772), respectively.
James was rostered as a freshman for both the 2020 and 2021 seasons because he took advantage of the COVID-19 repeat year afforded to many high school players by the state legislature. He shared QB duties in a COVID-shortened seven-game season in 2020, throwing for 807 yards and 10 TDs.
In 2021, James had the job to himself and helped lead Tilghman to the Class 3A state championship game where it lost to Belfry in a 33-28 thriller.
Tilghman (6-0) is currently ranked as the No. 2 team in Class 4A and is a serious threat to No. 1 Boyle County’s four-year reign.
