The 2026 Lexington Herald-Leader All-State Boys Basketball Teams are here
The Herald-Leader is proud to announce its 2026 All-State Boys Basketball Teams as voted on by high school coaches across the commonwealth.
Madison Central’s Jake Feldhaus, a 6-foot-8 senior forward who recently reopened his recruitment after winning Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball honor, topped our All-State First Team list as Herald-Leader Boys Player of the Year.
Feldhaus averaged 20.7 points and 13 rebounds per game for the Indians, who rose to No. 1 in the Kentucky Media Elite 16 rankings twice during the season. The son of Kentucky “Unforgettable” Deron Feldhaus garnered 78 Player of the Year votes from the 140 coaches who participated in the H-L’s all-state vote.
Feldhaus was joined on the first team by fellow 11th Region standouts Amari Owens of Bryan Station and DeMarcus Surratt of Frederick Douglass.
The first team also featured a pair of juniors in Marshall County’s Matthew Langhi and Prestonsburg’s Braxton Keathley.
Rounding out the first team were five Mr. Basketball finalists — North Laurel’s Reece Davidson, Boyd County’s Jacob Spurlock, St. Xavier’s Jeremiah Jackson, Daviess County’s Jonathan Moss and Covington Catholic’s Athens McGillis.
The Herald-Leader All-State Teams are based on coaches’ selections in a statewide survey conducted by the Lexington Herald-Leader/Kentucky.com. Players are listed in order of point totals based on coaches’ votes. There are three teams of 10 players, plus 20 honorable mentions.

Methodology: Our annual All-State survey was emailed to 277 Kentucky high school varsity boys basketball coaches using their email registered with the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. Multiple attempts were made to encourage every school to participate. Coaches were asked to select their top 10 players, and points were assigned based on a player’s position on the ballot (10 points for Player of the Year, nine points for No. 2, eight points for No. 3, etc.), and tabulated across all ballots received. The top 50 players receiving votes made our All-State list. This year, 140 coaches participated, and all 16 regions were represented.
