The 2019-20 Kentucky boys’ basketball season gets underway on Dec. 2. Here are 11 of the best players, in alphabetical order, playing for teams in the 11th Region this winter as put forth in a survey of region coaches.

Kole Browne, Madison Central (Jr.): Browne, a 6-3 guard, averaged 11.1 points per game as a sophomore and must lead a young team Coach Allen Feldhaus believes can be very good shooting from the perimeter. Browne made 43 of 112 threes last year (38.4 percent) and averaged four rebounds per game.

Tim Hall, Paul Laurence Dunbar (So.): Hall, a 6-6 power forward, averaged 6.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game last season and led the team in field goal percentage making 61.4 percent of his shots, including going 5-of-7 when he took a rare three-point attempt.

Terrin Hamilton, Scott County (Sr.): Hamilton, a 6-5 guard who got significant minutes on the Cardinals’ state runner-up squad a year ago, averaged 7.7 points and four rebounds per game. “He is an extremely long wing that has developed into an outstanding outside threat and also has the ability to go inside and score with his length,” Coach Tim Glenn said.

DeShawn Jackson, Frederick Douglass (Jr.): A 6-2 guard who has a chance to have a “breakout year,” according to Coach Kurt Young. Jackson averaged 16 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season. Young looks for Jackson to show his leadership qualities for what he believes can be a dangerous Broncos team.

Ben Johnson, Lexington Catholic (Jr.): Johnson was hailed by Coach Brandon Salsman as an “incredible scorer with great all-around skills.” The 6-3 guard led the Knights with 18.4 points per game last season.

Joe Meador, Franklin County (Sr.): Meador, a 6-9 forward, has begun to draw notice from college recruiters after a standout AAU campaign and looks to carry that forward into the high school season, according to Coach Tony Wise. Meador has “unique ability for a kid with his size to be able to jump, move and shoot the ball the way that he does,” Wise said.

Trent Moberly, Madison Southern (Sr.): Moberly, a 6-3 forward, returns as the Eagles’ leading scorer and rebounder from a year ago with 16.4 points and 5.6 boards per game. He’s part of a team with 10 seniors that Coach Austin Newton believes can have “one of the best years in Madison Southern history.”

Myles Morones, Bryan Station (Jr.): Morones, a 5-11 guard, led Station in points (13.4) and rebounds (5.3) as a sophomore. The team will definitely be looking to improve on its 6-22 record in Coach Nimbo Hammons’ second season.

Ray Surratt, Lafayette (Sr.): Coach Mike Mendenhall believes he has “the best big man in the region this year.” Surratt, a 6-7 center/forward averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds last season.

Amari Taylor, Tates Creek (Sr.): Taylor, a 6-2 guard, led the Commodores with 13.1 points per game a year ago. Coach Jerrod Gay looks to play an up-tempo game that emphasizes Creek’s speed advantage. “I think we will be a contender for the 43rd District title,” Gay said. “Having two of the best guards (Amari Taylor and Cion Townsend) in our region gives us an opportunity in reaching that goal.”

Marques Warrick, Henry Clay (Sr.): Warrick, a 6-3 guard, committed to Northern Kentucky and signed in November to clear his mind for what he believes will be a special season for the Blue Devils. He averaged 21.1 points and 4.1 rebounds as a junior on a team that finished runner-up to Scott County in the 11th Region finals.
