After an 81-73 victory over Germany in the opening round of GLOBL JAM 2023, Kentucky faces host Canada in Toronto at 8 p.m. in a second-round game.

Canada defeated BAL Select from Africa 88-62 on Wednesday night. Elijah Mahi led the way with 17 points. Thomas Kennedy added 15 for the winners.

Kentucky got 24 points from Antonio Reeves and 20 from Tre Mitchell in its Wednesday afternoon win. D.J. Wagner added 16 points for John Calipari’s team.

A replay for the UK-Canada game will be shown at midnight on the CBS Sports Network.

Kentucky blows out host Canada in GLOBL JAM 2023

Antonio Reeves scored 23 points while Justin Edwards added 16 and Reed Sheppard 14 as UK rolled over Canada 93-69 on Thursday in Toronto.

Kentucky ended up with 27 assists on 35 made field goals. The Cats also forced 21 Canada turnovers, to bring their total to 43 turnovers over two games in the tournament.

Rob Dillingham led UK with nine assists. Adou Thiero was credited with five assists and led the Cats with six rebounds.

Kentucky shot 48 percent from the floor, making 35 of 72 shots. UK was 11-of-30 from three-point range for 36 percent.

Canada shot 39 percent, making 28 of 71 shots. The Canadians were just 3-of-18 from three-point range for 16 percent.

Unselfish Kentucky rolling over Canada through three quarters

Two games into the GLOBL JAM 2023, Kentucky continues to do things (1) share the basketball, and (2) force turnovers.

Up 71-49 on Canada through three quarters, the Cats have 20 assists on 27 made field goals. Rob Dillingham, Adou Thiero and Reed Sheppard each have four assists.

Meanwhile, the Kentucky defense has forced 19 turnovers. This after UK forced 22 German turnovers on Wednesday. Reed Sheppard has four steals through three quarters.

Here is Sheppard’s stat line: 14 points, 2-of-4 from 3, two rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Kentucky is 7-of-18 from three-point range through three quarters.

After scoring 24 points on Wednesday, Antonio Reeves leads UK with 15 points.

Sheppard and Edwards lead way as Kentucky leads Canada at half

After going 2-for-8 from the floor, including 0-for-3 from three-point range on Wednesday, Justin Edwards found his offensive groove in the second quarter Thursday as Kentucky led Canada 49-34 at the half.

Edwards scored nine points in the quarter, including a pair of three-pointers. He was 3-of-9 from the floor, including 2-of-4 from three in the first half.

Kentucky’s Reed Sheppard, who did not score on Wednesday, led all scorers with 12 points in the first half. Sheppard was 4-of-7 from the floor, including 2-of-4 from three. He also had a blocked shot and jam just before intermission.

Kentucky was 18-of-35 from the floor in the first half for 51 percent. Canada was 15-of-31 for 48 percent. UK was 6-of-13 from three-point range. And the Cats forced 13 Canadian turnovers. UK forced 22 German turnovers on Wednesday.

Rob Dillingham, who got the start, led UK with four assists. The Cats were credited with 14 assists on their 18 made baskets.

Hot-shooting Kentucky leads Canada after first quarter

Kentucky made eight of its first nine shots, including three of its four three-point attempts on the way to a 24-16 lead over Canada at the end of the first quarter.

Kentucky buried three straight three-pointers with Reed Sheppard making the first two, followed by Antonio Reeves with the third. Sheppard dished six assists on Wednesday, but failed to score.

The Cats ended up 5-of-11 from three-point land in the first period. DeJuan Wagner hit a three to make it 24-16 with 23 seconds left.

Kentucky new starting lineup for Canada game

UK is starting freshman Rob Dillingham and freshman Reed Sheppard along with first-game starters Antonio Reeves, Tre Mitchell and Adou Thiero. Reeves scored 24 points and Mitchell 20 in the win over Germany on Wednesday.

Kentucky’s Ugonna Onyenso to miss second straight game

Kentucky sophomore center Ugonna Onyenso will not play against Canada on Thursday. Onyenso missed Wednesday’s game against Germany after injuring his ankle during a scrimmage with Africa on Tuesday.
