After a rough first weekend of college football, can the mighty SEC bounce up off the mat and make amends this Saturday?

The nation’s best football conference did not live up to that billing a week ago when mistake-prone Florida lost 24-11 at Utah; South Carolina was no match for pinpoint passer Drake Maye and North Carolina, 31-17, while Brian Kelly and LSU were blasted in the second half of a 45-24 loss to Florida State.

So the pressure is on this Saturday with a pair of matchups between ranked SEC teams and ranked foes.

All eyes will be on Tuscaloosa at 7 p.m. when ESPN broadcasts No. 11 Texas at No. 3 Alabama. (Spectrum cable customers can only hope parent company Charter and ESPN parent company Disney can hammer out an agreement by then.) But earlier in the day, there’s the makings of a Bourbon Street brawl in New Orleans between No. 20 Ole Miss and No. 24 Tulane at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

Lane Kiffin had the Rebels roaring early as Ole Miss routed Mercer 73-7 last Saturday. Out to prove its sensational 2022 season was no fluke, Tulane defeated South Alabama 37-17 behind underrated quarterback Michael Pratt.

Meanwhile, Alabama finally revealed the winner of its fall camp quarterback derby as starter Jalen Milroe led the Crimson Tide to a 56-7 romp over Middle Tennessee last Saturday. Texas was not quite as impressive in its 37-10 victory over visiting Rice.

As for the local 11, the only way you can watch the Kentucky-Eastern Kentucky matchup at Kroger Field is via streaming. SEC Network Plus and ESPN Plus have the 3 p.m. game. ESPN Plus requires an ESPN Plus subscription. SEC Network Plus requires a cable network subscription. Peter Sousa and Takeo Spikes will be on the call.

If streaming is not your thing, you can listen to the radio broadcast with Tom Leach, Jeff Piecoro and Dick Gabriel on the UK Sports Network.
