Burger blitz: Chain expanding in Lexington heads into more Kentucky cities
A gourmet burger chain is expanding again in Kentucky, this time into Richmond.
Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers will be opening a new location at 853 Eastern Bypass.
The spot was an Applebee’s but that restaurant closed abruptly in June 2018, part of a wave of closures by Applebee’s parent Dine Brands Global.
According to the Richmond Register, franchise owner Eric Cole is expecting to open in August.
Founded in Kansas, Freddy’s serves a menu of double steakburgers pressed thin “to create deliciously crispy edges” on toasted buns with super skinny shoestring fries with “Freddy’s Famous Fry Sauce.” Freddy’s also has hot dogs, chili dogs, patty melts, chicken sandwiches and a veggie burger.
And then there’s the frozen custard: Freddy’s is known for its signature sundaes, concretes and cones.
It’s the second big restaurant announcement in about a month for Richmond: Buc-ee’s, a Texas chain of travel centers known for its ultra clean bathrooms and voluminous food options, is coming to the I-75 interchange at Duncannon Lane.
Freddy’s already has a location in Hamburg and is opening a second Lexington restaurant on Nicholasville Road this summer. And another Kentucky city, Shepherdsville, also is getting a Freddy’s, according to company’s web site.
