Lexington’s on a biscuit binge: Details on when, where new restaurant opens

Lexington is getting a new player in the ongoing Battle of the Biscuits.

Besides local places such as Magee’s Bakery’s, Doodles and DV8 Kitchen, the city already has a Tudor’s Biscuit World and a new Biscuit Belly dining spot.

But word of Bluegrass biscuit love has spread: Now we’re getting a Maple Street Biscuit Co. too.

The new restaurant is expected to open this fall at 2270 Nicholasville Rd., according to the company. And it should be open daily for breakfast and lunch.

A new building will be built at the location where an O’Charley’s was recently torn down. Besides Maple Street Biscuits, a new Chipotle is coming in too, according to permits filed with the city.

The restaurant chain specializes in gourmet biscuits topped with fried chicken and other specialty toppings. The signature dish is The Five and Dime, a biscuit with a fried chicken breast, pecanwood smoked bacon, a fried egg and cheddar cheese topped with house-made sausage gravy.

The menu at Maple Street Biscuit Co. includes gourmet biscuits and fried chicken, waffles, the Bluegrass Grits Bowl, sides and salads and specialty coffees.

The menu of “comfort food with a modern twist” also includes waffles (that also can come with fried chicken), a grits bowl, salads, sides and specialty coffees. Some locations also serve mimosas.

Maple Street Biscuit Co. already has a location in Louisville at 1004 Bardstown Rd.

The company was founded in Jacksonville, Fla., in 2012; in October 2019, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc. bought the chain for $36 million.

The Louisville location of Maple Street Biscuit Co. is in the Highlands neighborhood at 1004 Bardstown Rd. It’s open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
