You’ve heard of pickleball, the paddle game huge everywhere these days, and you’ve probably heard of a “pickleback,” a shot of pickle brine after a shot of bourbon. Now comes ... the pickleball bar.

PKL LEX will be opening at 223 Owens Ave., just off Winchester Road in what is now an empty yellow metal warehouse.

Gresham Wilson, an agent at Block + Lot Real Estate, is a partner in the new venture, which will have lot going on besides indoor pickleball courts.

“We’re going to have a taproom and a full restaurant in there,” Wilson said. They also will have golf simulators, he said.

They hope to open in the spring.

Wilson said that they are talking with a local craft beer brewery to take on the taproom and restaurant space.

The building will be renovated to add a mezzanine for seating and there will be a patio outside as well, he said.

The new entertainment venue will be tucked in behind a new set of five-story apartment complexes coming to the intersection of Midland Avenue and Winchester Road.

And it will be around the block from National Avenue, a hub of restaurants and retail.
