Popular Lexington wood-fired pizza, pasta restaurant opening new location

A new location of a quick-service pizza and pasta restaurant from the creator of many popular local dining spots is opening Tuesday.

Smashing Tomato will open its third Lexington location June 16 at 112 Lucille Drive, Suite 150 in the Masterson Station area off Leestown Road, near Ramsey’s Diner and Osaka.

Crews have been renovating the new location, which will open in the former Biscuit Belly location that closed in October 2025 after two years. The new Smashing Tomato will have an outdoor patio for dining.

The new Lexington Italian restaurant joins the lineup of restaurateur Kuni Toyoda’s other brands: Crust, Bella Notte and Bella Cafe.

Smashing Tomato, with other locations in Hamburg and near Fayette Mall, is known for its wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas made with fresh ingredients. The restaurant’s menu also has soups, salads and pastas, and the spot serves wine and beer.

Earlier this year, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy made a visit to the Hamburg Smashing Tomato location for his online, one-bite video reviews of pizza.

The popular reviewer, who has 1.5 million subscribers on his YouTube Page, gave Smashing Tomato’s pizza a score of 7.1 out of 10.
