University of Kentucky and Louisville basketball fans can prepare for — or celebrate — this weekend’s big rivalry game by slurping a plate of red-or blue-colored noodles in honor of their preferred team.
Skyline Chili — the official chili of UK Athletics — is offering the colored noodles with their popular menu item Spaghetti Ways on Saturday.
Customers who visit a Lexington or Louisville Skyline Chili can choose a Red or Blue Way, and then scan a QR code to vote for their favorite team and be entered for a chance to win prizes.
Cincinnati-style chili — the kind found at Skyline — is wildly popular in Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky. But it can also be a polarizing dish — sort of like the Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals in the Bluegrass State.
This year, after a few disappointing seasons, both Louisville and Kentucky’s fan bases appear re-energized under first-year coaches. Mark Pope has the 7-1 Wildcats ranked No. 5 in the nation, and Louisville stands at 5-4 after winning just 12 total games in the past two seasons.
Kentucky and Louisville will tip off at 5:15 Saturday at Rupp Arena. As of Wednesday afternoon the cheapest ticket available on the resale website Ticketmaster, after fees, was $152.
Participating Skyline locations in the Lexington area are:
- Nicholasville Skyline: 354 East Brannon Road, Nicholasville
- Richmond Road Skyline: 2850 Richmond Road, Lexington
- Georgetown Skyline: 103 Crosswinds Center Path, Georgetown
- Lantern Ridge Skyline (EKU): 2216 Lantern Ridge, Richmond
Skyline has also offered colored noodles for events like Halloween (orange) and and St. Patrick’s Day (green).
