Pedestrian dies after crash in Lexington. It’s the fifth pedestrian death of the year
A pedestrian died after being hit by a car last week in Lexington, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner’s office identified the pedestrian as 60-year-old Anna Gayhart, of Lexington. She died shortly after 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.
The crash happened hours earlier in the outbound lanes of Winchester Road, just before New Circle Road. Police previously said Gayhart was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but didn’t say what caused the collision.
The coroner’s office listed Gayhart’s manner of death as an accident. Police said the driver was cooperative at the scene and charges were not expected.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the collision.
A GoFundMe web page has been created to raise funds for Gayhart’s funeral. The fundraiser has collected $555 as of Thursday morning, with the goal of reaching $900.
“Those who knew Anna knew she was always smiling and had the sweetest soul. She loved her sons and her family, but to my son she was simply Nana,” wrote Brittany Hanson, the fundraiser’s creator.
Lexington up to five pedestrian deaths in 2025
Gayhart’s death marks the fifth pedestrian death in a motor vehicle collision in Lexington this year. Kentucky State Police’s crash database lists four previous pedestrian fatalities in car crashes. The most recent happened the day after Gayhart’s death, and it left two men dead.
Last year there were eight fatal pedestrian wrecks, according to KSP data. There was also one additional crash that left a bicyclist dead.
