A driver accused of chasing another vehicle, shooting at it and causing a fatal crash has been arrested, California police reported.

Following an argument, a man chased after three people in another vehicle and shot at them just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, the Montclair Police Department said in a news release.

The man rammed the other vehicle, causing it to crash into a tree, and abducted one of the passengers, a woman, who fled from the wreck, police said.

A second person who also fled the crashed vehicle has not been located, police said.

The third occupant in the crashed vehicle was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.

The kidnapped woman later escaped in Ontario and was taken to a hospital, police said.

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, police reported the arrest of Jorge Tafolla Jr., 48, of Hesperia, in the case following a manhunt, police said in a news release.

He faces charges of homicide and kidnapping, police said.

All of the people involved knew each other, police said. They ask anyone with information to call 909-621-4771.

Montclair is about a 35-mile drive east from downtown Los Angeles.
