Kentucky has found the end zone for the first time in its highly anticipated 2022 football season.
The first touchdown of the new season was scored by senior tight end Brenden Bates during the first quarter of UK’s season opener against Miami (Ohio) on Saturday night at Kroger Field.
Bates found the end zone on a 6-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Will Levis.
The first Kentucky scoring drive of the 2022 season was anchored by several chunk plays.
The drive covered 79 yards in just five plays, and took only 123 seconds to complete.
Virginia Tech transfer wide receiver Tayvion Robinson had a 45-yard catch and run, and freshman wide receiver Dane Key recorded his first catch as a Kentucky Wildcat for 19 yards.
That score wasn’t enough to give UK the lead, though, as the Cats allowed a touchdown to Miami (Ohio) on the game’s opening drive, a 13-play, 75-yard effort from the RedHawks.
