DJ Wagner is the top college basketball recruit in the class of 2023.

From New Jersey, Wagner plays for Camden High School and for the New Jersey Scholars on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) circuit.

Wagner is ranked as the No. 1 player in the class of 2023 by 247Sports, and the 6-foot-3 combo guard is the center of recruiting attention in the commonwealth.

Wagner’s stepbrother, Kareem Watkins, is a walk-on player on the UK men’s basketball team.

Wagner’s grandfather, Milt Wagner, is one of Louisville’s greatest players and recently rejoined the U of L program in a support staff role under new head coach Kenny Payne.

Wagner’s father, Dajuan Wagner, was a star player for current UK head coach John Calipari at the beginning of his Memphis tenure.

It’s set to be a recruiting battle for the ages between UK and U of L for Wagner.

Wagner holds a scholarship offer from both Kentucky and Louisville, and Wagner visited the Wildcats last October.

Wagner was in Louisville last weekend with the New Jersey Scholars to play in the Nike EYBL session, held at the Kentucky Expo Center.

Here’s more than three minutes of highlights from Wagner’s game with New Jersey Scholars against Brad Beal Elite on Sunday afternoon.

During the five-game Nike EYBL session in Louisville, Wagner averaged 19 points per game. Wagner posting scoring efforts of 29 and 27 points over the weekend, as well as several high assist outings.

Wagner attempted at least 12 shots in each game.
