Blue Grass Airport set another record in 2025.

The Lexington-based airport saw 1,614,053 total passengers in 2025, surpassing the previous record of 1,571,805 passengers set in 2024. This represents a 2.7 % increase over 2024.

It’s the second consecutive year Blue Grass Airport has set a record for number of passengers, airport officials said Feb. 2.

The 2025 growth can be attributed to new flights at the airport, including a non-stop flight to New York City’s LaGuardia Airport. The Delta flight was suspended in 2020 and was reinstated in 2025.

Allegiant, a budget carrier, also added a flight to Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport, further expanding Blue Grass’s many Florida-based destinations.

United Airlines, meanwhile, added a fifth flight to Chicago, a key connector to other destinations in the United States, airport officials said.

“These record passenger numbers reflect the trust placed in LEX and its airline partners, and that support makes a real difference,” said Eric Frankl, president and CEO of Blue Grass Airport. “When you fly from Lexington, it helps secure more flights, more destinations and a stronger future for air service in central and southeastern Kentucky.”

To accommodate the growth in the number of passengers, Blue Grass Airport is in the middle of a $17.8 million parking lot expansion project that will eventually include 815 new long-term parking spots, a second covered pedestrian walkway to the terminal and a new parking exit plaza.

The project is expected to be completed sometime this spring.
