Football fans everywhere have an opinion about what is the best position on the field.
But what really makes a spot on a football team special? We asked each of the three wives of the married Kentucky Wildcats to explain what makes their husband’s position the best.
Courtney Berry, wife of punter Wilson Berry:
“I think it’s cool for Wilson, because he grew up kicking a football. In Australian football, you either handball it or you punt it. And so he’s kind of been punting since he was around (eldest son) Leo’s age. So I think it’s cool. It’s cool to see him, and pictures of him when he was younger basically doing the same thing, just in a different sport.”
Azucena Braun, wife of offensive lineman Josh Braun:
“I’ve met so many offensive linemen. And they are just so different than the rest of the team. They are so smart. They are the smartest unit. They are hilarious, and their love for food is life-changing. You learn so many food hacks from them; you learn the best places to eat, everything. But also, they’re a very tough unit. They are extremely smart, and they have to be that way for their position. They’re super tough. I mean, every game, they’re getting pounded and just beat up, and their bodies are taking a physical toll every single game. And it’s gotten a lot better over the years, but offensive linemen don’t get a lot of recognition. But they’re just tough, and they’re incredibly smart and so fun to be around.”
Taylor Lanter, wife of wide receiver Cole Lanter:
“They’re fast, they’re smart, they’re strong. They have great hands, and they have great celebrations. But they can also take a hit. They get hit so hard, and then they just get right back up. Very rare do you see a wide receiver on the ground because they have a cramp or are down, you know? Not to mention, they also have to be mentally tough. Because, as athletes, we’re never perfect. So you’re going to drop balls, and you have to be able to get back on the line and catch the next one.”
