The 149th Kentucky Derby is scheduled for a post time of 6:57 p.m. Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, and official betting on the race began Friday morning.

Florida Derby winner Forte was the favorite in the early betting, but he was scratched from the race Saturday morning, leading to a major shift in the Derby odds and a new favorite for the race.

For most of day, Angel of Empire was the top choice among Derby bettors, but Blue Grass Stakes winner Tapit Trice claimed favorite status about an hour before post time.

By by 6:55 p.m. Saturday, Tapit Trice had odds of 9-2 odds. Angel of Empire moved to favorite’s status at 4-1.

The 2023 Kentucky Derby will be shown live Saturday on NBC, with network TV coverage beginning at noon.
