Freezing rain and snow hit Kentucky Wednesday night and Thursday, and residents shared images and information about what the weather was like in their part of the state.

About two-tenths of an inch of ice accumulated in Fayette County while other areas got larger amounts with snow on top, according to the National Weather Service and area meteorologists. Additional freezing rain, sleet, snow was possible in regions of Central, Southern and Eastern Kentucky Thursday.

The ice storm warning was canceled Thursday morning in some parts of Kentucky, including Fayette County, but was expected to be in effect for counties further south through 7 p.m. Thursday. Near midday on Thursday, the National Weather Service’s Louisville office canceled winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings for Northern Kentucky.

Thousands of power outages were reported in Kentucky Wednesday night and early Thursday.

WKYT-TV Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey said that after this storm wraps up, even more foul weather may be on the way. After a light snow/winter mix Saturday, he said two more winter storms are possible next week.
