The Federal Emergency Management Agency has opened mobile registration centers to assist with applications for individual disaster assistance in seven Eastern Kentucky counties hit by flooding last week.
In a Tuesday release, FEMA announced mobile centers in Breathitt, Clay, Knott, Letcher and Perry counties to assist those hit by the July 28 catastrophic flooding.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Pike and Floyd County residents are also eligible for assistance. In a Thursday release, FEMA announced centers opening in those locations as well.
Owsley has since been added as an additional county eligible for aid.
The move comes after President Joe Biden approved individual assistance over the weekend. Those who are underinsured or uninsured may be able to access federal assistance.
The mobile assistance centers are set up at the following locations and open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.:
Breathitt County 421 Jett Drive, Jackson, KY 41339
Clay County Clay Community Center, 311 Highway 638, Manchester, KY 40962
Knott County Knott County Sportsplex, 450 Kenny Champion Loop No. 8765, Leburn, KY 41831
Letcher County Letcher County Recreation Center, 1505 Jenkins Road, Whitesburg, KY 41858
Perry County Hazard Community and Technical College, 1 Community College Drive, Hazard, KY 41701
Floyd County Martin Community Center, 7199 KY Route 80, Langley, KY 41645
Pike County 15308 U.S. 23 S., Jenkins, KY 41537
“FEMA representatives will be at the centers to help with applications for federal assistance and provide information about other disaster recovery resources,” the release states. “FEMA financial assistance may include money for temporary housing, basic home repairs or other uninsured, disaster-related needs such as childcare, transportation and medical, funeral or dental expenses.”
