With the coronavirus shutdown, many families are home together. Which can be great.
But nobody wants to cook every night. Or maybe you want to send a meal to someone special.
Many Lexington restaurants are stepping into the breach with takeout “family meals” deals. Because you can’t eat pizza every time, as much as you love it.
So, whether you’re looking for comfort food like fried chicken or meatloaf, or something a little more spicy, you have options for the next time someone says, “what do you want for dinner tonight?”
Heirloom
The Midway restaurant Heirloom has four options to feed four: Heirloom spaghetti and meatballs ($37), Spanish paella ($42), marinated skirt steak ($39), and buttermilk-brined fried chicken ($38.) Add panna cotta for dessert or a bottle of wine (or both.)
Forage
The Forage food truck is offering take-and-bake meals for four to six people weekly. For instance, one week’s offerings include three brunch choices — whole quiche, chicken & waffles and “banana bread” cinnamon rolls — and lasagna. Vegetarian options available; prices vary.
Wild Thyme Cooking
Wild Thyme has family meals every day except Sunday. Menus vary and include items such as chicken enchilada bake, chicken parm with bacon and spaghetti squash, pot roast, Panko-crusted pork fritters and fried chicken. All fully cooked family meals with sides serve four for $35. Order by noon, pick up 4 to 6 p.m. Delivery also available.
Ranada’s Bistro
Ranada’s has five options that feed four to six, including salad, rolls or garlic bread and dessert. Choose from baked ziti with vegetables ($25); roasted pork tenderloin with yummy Jezebel sauce ($35), traditional beef stroganoff ($45), chick parmesan ($55) and bourbon fried chicken ($65.) Delivery also available. Call at least two hours in advance.
Bourbon ‘n’ Toulouse
You probably already know your favorite Cajun dish from this place. Now you can take home two quarts and two loaves of bread (enough for six to eight) for $40. Order online and pick up curbside. You can schedule your day and time as well.
Dupree Catering + Events
Want to have that Picnic with the Pops feel in your back yard? Dupree Catering lets you pick your salad, entree and two sides for pick up or delivery Monday through Saturday. And 15 percent of the proceeds will benefit FoodChain and The LEE Initiative effort to feed those in need. Order by 5 p.m. for next day. Entrees include Asian sesame beef, beef barbacoa tacos, chicken pot pie, oven-fried chicken and chicken & chorizo gumbo. Prices $28-$84, for two-six portions. You can get appetizers, desserts, drinks, beer and wine, too.
Bear & the Butcher
The Bear & the Butcher has four family meals for four for $50. Entrees include beef and four cheese lasagna with salad and grilled focaccia; a dozen crispy chicken tenders with two sides and buttermilk biscuits; B&B tacos (any combination of 12) with chips and salsa, rice and black beans; and pulled pork sandwiches with two sides.
GirlsGirlsGirls Burritos
The Girls will make your family taco night: A meal kit feeds four and includes spicy ground beef and black beans, tortillas, red salsa, salsa verde, sour cream, jack cheese, pickled peppers, cilantro, onion, corn chips and four canned drinks. Kids meal options of mini quesadilla or chicken tenders are also available. Sides and margarita kit available too.
Holly Hill Inn
What’s better than having chef Ouita Michel make you dinner? Her Holly Hill Inn is offering different entrees each weekend for her Supper To Go. This week’s options: cioppino ($35), marinated Pacific swordfish ($35) or smoked rack of Kentucky lamb ($37.) The dinner includes salad, Midway Bakery baguette and spring pavlova for dessert. You can get extras like take-and-bake goat cheese appetizer, or asparagues bisque. Or a whole strawberry rhubarb pie. Or go for a chicken and asparagus casserole or Midway Bakery sausage and ricotta quiche. Order online and pick up at Holly Hill Inn.
Saul Good Restaurant and Pub
Saul Good near Fayette Mall has Family Meals that feed four such as kids’ PB&J, chicken salad, pizza and nachos, pimento chicken sandwiches, or chicken parmesan. Prices vary. And watch for pop-ups at DV8 Kitchen; pre-order cinnamon rolls and more.
Keene Dining
Keene Dining and Events has eight different take-and-bake meals for $75; each feeds five and includes sides. Choose sausage breakfast casserole, pot roast, red or white lasagna, chicken pesto pasta, hibachi chicken teriyaki, buffalo chicken enchiladas, chicken pot pie or shepherd’s pie or Southern smoked meat loaf. Order a day in advance and pick up.
Bluegrass Bayou Catering
The catering company has launched Friday Night Curbside with pickup at Copper Roux, 861 South Broadway. Ordering goes live every Monday and you set your time. Menus change weekly; April 24 is Cajun Night. You can get food for four including salad, entree, side and French bread for $52. You can add on dessert, cocktails, sides and more.
J. Render’s Southern Table
J. Render’s is doing different family meals each week, such as a “cookout” meal for four for $40, with hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, baked beans, potato salad & banana pudding. Or Sunday Supper such as fried chicken and fixings for four for $45. They also have their Que To You Menu with barbecue packages.
Pasta Garage
Pasta Garage is always an easy meal option but now they’ve added frozen pasta meal kits: Lasagna, four cheese ravioli, spinach cheese ravioli and mushroom trio ravioli. Call to order.
DaRae and Friends Catering
This Lexington Caterer has different “Bundle of Love” family meal options, from Italian sausage lasagna with sides and dessert, to a quiche and salad feast perfect for brunch. And she also posts a weekly menu of family meals such as green chili chicken casserole or Ina Garten’s Lemon Roasted Chicken. Prices vary; delivery available.
Proud Mary BBQ
Proud Mary is known for its crawfish boils and buffet now they are available to go. Each weekend you can get family meals including the “Pick 9” with all nine meats and seafoods and four sides. Feeds six for $45. Lots of other options, including crawfish boil, cocktails to go and more. Call to order.
Gumbo Ya Ya
Gumbo Ya Ya has two locations and both are offering $40 family meals that feed up to 10 people. You choose two sauces that go over rice or pasta and come with a loaf of garlic bread. Call to order, at least an hour in advance of pickup.
Azur Restaurant & Patio
Azur has menu of family meals and sides available including salmon croquettes, chicken marsala and chef Jeremy Ashby’s famous bourbon fried chicken tenderloins. Prices vary; feeds four. Specials and dessert also available. Call to order.
Bella Notte
Bella Notte has a family dinner that feeds up to four for $30, including large salad, family pasta, and panna cotta for dessert. Choices include spaghetti with meatballs, chicken fettuccine alfredo, baked rigatoni romano and chicken gorgonzola. Wine also available. Call for pickup.
Athenian Grill
Athenian Grill’s Locust Hill location has family lunch and dinner specials that serve four. Get gyro meat and salad or mixed grill and sides. Prices vary. You can also add vegetarian options, sides and dips.
Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse
Looking to splurge a bit? Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse is back open and is offering four curbisde family meal kits featuring cook-at-home steaks. Each kit comes with a salad mac and cheese asparagus and sourdough bread starting at $125.
Selma’s Catering
Selma’s has a complete Taco Dinner Kit for four for $50, with seasoned ground beef or chicken, refried beans, Spanish rice, shredded lettuce and cheese, diced tomatoes and fixings (guac is extra). And you can add on a margarita kit. Or go a different direction with ready-to-grill burgers and fixings. Or dinner specials such as fried chicken or meatloaf for $15 per person.
CRU Food & Wine Bar
CRU at The Summit has daily family meal specials such as Cajun chicken pasta. Feed two for $25, feed four for $40. Add-ons include salad, desserts and wine. Call to order.
Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken
Gus’s has a meal special for $26 with eight pieces of chicken, six tenders and two sauces, large macaroni and cheese and large coleslaw. Call to order; feeds four or five (at least.)
The Southern Deli & Tavern
Southern Deli has a family pack of four burgers or sandwiches and sides and a gallon of tea for $40. Call to order.
Shamrock
Shamrock Bar & Grille at Patchen has baked mac n cheese with barbecue chicken, feeds four to six, with breadsticks for $35.
The Chop House
The Chop House on Richmond Road has family meals to feed four for $50, $60 or $80. Entrees range from Angus chopped steak to prime rib; includes Chop House salad and side. Call to order; wine also available.
Texas Roadhouse
Texas Roadhouse has family packs to serve four with entree, salad, sides rolls and honey cinnamon butter. Choose chicken critters, grilled barbecue chicken, pulled pork, beef tips, sirloin steaks or ribs. Prices vary; call or download app to order.
Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen
Cheddar’s has Family Bundles starting at $19.99 with entrees, choice of sides and honey butter croissants. Add on a salad, gallons of tea or lemonade. Call to order.
Joella’s Hot Chicken
Joella’s has a four- and eight-person Family Picnic Pack with jumbo tenders, Southern sides to choose from, and dipping sauces for $35 and $65.
Johnny Carino’s Italian
Carino’s has family platters, including their 16-layer lasagna, and many more. Watch for half-price deals. Call ahead to order; curbside pickup.
Seasons Catering
Family meals feeding 4, 6 or 12 can be ordered from Seasons Catering 24 hours in advance. Options include beef lasagna, chicken tetrazzini, beer can chicken flank steak and more. Meal come with salad, choice of side and rolls and butter and prices start at $15.95 per person for the meal that feeds 4 and go down if you get bigger meals.
Buddy’s Pizza
Buddy’s in Frankfort has take-and-bake pizza kits and lasagnas, call to order.
Chicken Salad Chick
Chicken Salad Chick in Brannon Crossing near Nicholasville has a family dinner deal for about $45 that includes two large Quick Chick containers (any flavor), a large side item or six bags of chips, six croissants, six cookies and a gallon of tea or lemonade. Feeds four to six; call to order.
Stein’s by Addie’s
Stein’s on Southland has a menu of take-and-bake mains such as chicken broccoli and rice or meatballs in mushroom gravy. Family-sized sizes and cold sides are also available, as well as desserts. Prices vary. And they are adding freezer items such as veggie lasagna and more. Call before noon to pick up the next day.
Mr. Brews Taphouse
Mr. Brews has your choice of four burgers and two baskets of fries or handmade chips for $36. You can add on other sides, starters such as Wisconson cheese curds and get a growler too. Order online for pickup.
Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe
Taziki’s on Southland has dinner for four meals with entree and sides. You can add on fresh grilled vegetables.
Sedona Taphouse
Sedona Taphouse has family-style dinners such as flat-iron steak or grilled chicken, two for $20, or salmon dinners two for $25, including sides. Add on dessert and salad available.
