Lexington dining guides

LexGoEat.com is here to help with a number of guides of Lexington restaurants from family meals to Italian to Mexican.

Expand All

It’s no secret that Lexingtonians love to dine outdoors, whether it’s on patios, in picnic areas or rooftop terraces. The need to stay socially distant during the coronavirus pandemic has made outdoor dining even more desirable.

As restaurants cope with reduced indoor capacity, many have expanded their outdoor seating, even adding tents and other amenities to make al fresco seem even more festive.

And the city has allowed restaurants to expand their outdoor footprint onto sidewalks or even into the street parking area.

Here are some updated options if you want to have a dining experience other than your own kitchen or curbside pickup, but still aren’t quite ready to go back inside.

And remember that most restaurants are continuing takeout, which has became a popular option during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.

Note that hours of operation are not included as they are constantly changing. Please call the restaurant for most up-to-date hours.

The list doesn’t include chains, which also might have fine outdoor seating.

Epping’s on Eastside

Epping’s on Eastside is now offering outdoor seating under a tent in the parking lot next to their building to ensure that customers have a place to dine outside, with six feet between parties, in accordance with social distancing precautions due to COVID-19. The owner, Cole Arimes, says that outdoor seating felt like the safest option to offer his customers, and he planned it even before Gov. Andy Beshears announcement of stricter guidelines for restaurants to follow on July 27, 2020.

264 Walton Ave.; 859-971-0240; Eppingsoneastside.com; Epping’s on Eastside has gone picnic, adding tables with seating for about 100 under a tent outside, with baskets of flowers and greenery and lights behind a picket fence.

The new tent even has room for live music on weekends. Epping’s is taking reservations dinner and for weekend brunch for the tent seating on Open Table or by phone.

Mack Herndon hangs a flower basket to decorate the new tent that is up at Epping’s on Eastside on July 28 the day after Gov. Andy Beshear’s announcement of further restrictions on restaurant capacity due to COVID-19. The tent allows Epping’s to serve more customers. Pemberton’s Greenhouse, the family business where Herndon works, has been working closely with local restaurants to ensure that their outdoor seating arrangements still feel purposeful and distract from the fact that these pop-up outside seating arrangements are often in parking lots.

With the Governor's announcement yesterday, nothing has changed for us. We have covered outdoor seating only, and plenty of it. Order online anytime at www.thestavekentucky.com or give us a call at 859-879-0101 to tell us about your plans or to order food - either for here or to go. Not sure what you want yet? Enjoy the beautiful drive to the Stave and order at the window when you get here. We aren't taking reservations quite yet and we are only operating with counter service, but we'll get there!
