Looking for a sugar rush? Here are some of the local Lexington restaurants offering to-go options for sweets.

While restaurants closed during the coronavirus pandemic have been given the go-ahead for some dining in, many are still offering inventive items to take home.

Whether it’s pastries, ice cream, cakes, pies, doughnuts or candy, there’s something on this list to satisfy any sweet tooth.

The places listed here have curbside pickup options and some even deliver but extra fees may apply.

Backroads Bakery

Backroads Bakery is two sisters, Ruth and Katie Ralph, who have taken an online bakery to a bricks and mortar location on West Sixth. Their specialty is cheesecake by the slice, by the bite or whole but they do much much more. Call to order.

Burke’s Bakery & Delicatessen

“If you’re going to Danville, you have to go to Burke’s.” That’s the kind of place this is. And it’s worth the drive even if you aren’t going to Danville. Classic cakes and sweets such as gingerbread men, plus doughnuts, muffins and pastries, breads, butterflake rolls and sandwiches. Call to order.

Caramanda’s Bake Shoppe

Caramanda’s, which has a location on Southland and on Richmond Road, does big cakes and little cakes, cookies and more. Check out their daily cupcake menu with flavors like raspberry lemonade, Kentucky bourbon ball and dreamsicle.

The Cookie Social

The Cookie Social makes amazing custom decorated cookies. Perfect for showers, for birthday party favors and much more. Order online at thecookiesocial.com.

Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream

Crank & Boom has two locations, one on the Pepper Campus in the Distillery District and another in The Barn at The Summit. And they have online ordering for specialty flavors such as Stronger Together, a blend of strawberry and banan that benefits Black Soil, which works to support Kentucky-based black farmers and culinary artists. That follows Dr. Moose Stack, CAndy Beshear and NTI: Non-Traditional Ice Cream. Order that and many other flavors online at crankandboom.com.

Desserts by Rebecca in Georgetown is a custom cake shop that also sells cookies, coffee, crepes, pies, biscotti and much more. Call to order.

Donut Days Bakery

Donut Days is a Southland gem. Sure, they have doughnuts, and a drive-through window. But don’t forget their classic cakes, decorated cookies and more. Call to order.

DV8 Kitchen

DV8 Kitchen is operating pop-ups at its Broadway location and is serving baked goods including lucious cinnamon rolls at the Saul Good Restaurant on Nicholasville Road. Order online at saulgoodpub.com.

El Lounge Ice Cream and Snacks

Sometimes you want something a little different. El Lounge with Mexican street sweets has you covered. Be adventurous, try Tajin spice and chamoy sauce, a sweet lime and peppery sauce that is a cult favorite, on ice cream or fruit. Call to order.

European Delights Gourmet Bakery

European Delights has specialty cakes, pastries, cookie, treats and coffee. Call to order.

The Futile Gourmet

The Futile Gourmet is Daniel King, who offers his custom cakes, decorated sugar cookies, and other treats at pop-up sales and direct to you through online ordering on Facebook.

Gigi’s Cupcakes

Gigi’s Cupcakes does specialty cupcakes, of course, and decorated cakes too.

Gluten Free Miracles

Gluten Free Miracles is a bakery that specializes in baked good that can be enjoyed by those who can’t tolerate gluten. Besides bread and other gluten-free baked goods (cinnamon rolls!), they have vegan and paleo baked goods too. And the bakery is participating in Feed Our Neighbor, offering free gluten-free meals to those in need.

Good Foods Co-op

The Co-op has a restaurant inside and regularly stocks grab-and-go items such as vegan pies and cakes.

Graeter’s

Graeter’s Ice Cream is based in Cincinnati and has a loyal following in Kentucky. The scoop shops on Euclid and on Justice Drive have pints, ice cream cakes, ice cream pies and other treats available too. Order by phone.

Habibi’s Sweets & Pastries

Habibi’s Sweets & Pastries on Nicholasville offers genuine Middle Eastern goodies, including warbat, trudel-like cream filled pastries, and cheesy kunafa and filo pastries, such as baklawa. Order by phone.

Kourtesy’s Kupcakes & More

La Petite Delicat

La Petite Delicat specializes in exquisite macarons, in pastel shades and delicate flavors. The shop also has cinnamon rolls, croissants, and other pastries. Call or order online.

Magee’s Bakery

Magee’s is a Lexington institution, known for doughnuts, cookies and pies, including transparent pie. Also does biscuits and breakfast and lunch orders. Call to order.

Martine’s Pastries

Martine’s has lots of small pastries such as butter cake and eclair, but the bakery’s specialty is its pistachio cake, available by the slice. Or order a whole cake. Martine’s also does customer cakes, cookies and more. And serves breakfast and lunch. Call to order; delivery is also now available.

The Midway Bakery

The Midway Bakery is one of chef Ouita Michel’s enterprises. Housed in an old school, the bakery makes the pies, cakes, cookies and other desserts served in her other restaurants. Order online at themidwaybakery.com for pickup in Midway.

Minton’s at 760

Minton’s is small, so it could be easy overlook. But that would be a big mistake. Because they do amazing cakes, pies, cookies, cookie cakes and items by the slice. Call to order.

Missy’s Pies

Missy’s Pies on Woodland is another Lexington gem. Their meringue pies are impressive to look at and delicious. They also do cheesecakes and other pies, including May Day pie. Call to order. Slices also available at Ramsey’s Dinners.

Mondelli’s Bakeshop

Mondelli’s has decorated cookies, pastries, cakes, petit fours, bon bons, brownies, cream horns, cupcakes and more. Call to order.

Mrs. Rogers’ Popcorn & Sweet Shoppe

Mrs. Rogers’ in Versailles mixes the salty and sweet with great results, such as white chocolate popcorn, chocolate dipped pretzel sticks, peanut butter balls and much more. Call to order. Plans to reopen March 25.

Nothing Bundt Cakes specializes in adorable bundt cakes that will wow you will flavor. Each is draped in petals of icing, and can be dressed up with flowers and flags. Rebecca Ruth Candy

Although you can’t tour the historic Rebecca Ruth Frankfort factory at the moment, you can still pick up the famous Rebecca Ruth bourbon balls there and on Versailles Road outside Frankfort. Call to order this quintessential Kentucky treat.

Ruth Hunt Candies

Ruth Hunt, which has a location in Lexington, does amazing chocolate treats such as bourbon balls, buckeye balls, dipped pretzels, cream pulled candy and caramels. And there is also a post office inside the store. Call or order online at ruthhuntcandy.com.

Sharp’s Candies

Sharp’s Candies in Lexington is the one with the candy cane outside the “gingerbread house.” And the chocolate covered grapes, strawberries and much more inside. Call or order online at sharpscandies.com.

Sorella Gelateria

Sorella has delicious and inventive flavors of gelato, including vegan sorbets. You can check out what flavors Alma Kajtazovic and Selma Sulejmanagic are stocking in the case at any moment on their Facebook page, then message to order.

Smor Nordic Bakeri

Smor Nordic Bakeri is a Norwegian bakery in Louisville that does traditional treats like krumkake and kringla. And they do pop-ups in Lexington and Frankfort! Watch for them on Facebook and order online at smornordicbakeri.com.

Spalding’s Bakery

Spalding’s is pretty much the definition of old-school yeast doughnuts. They also have cake doughnuts, cinnamon rolls and more. You have to line up to order. And it’s cash only to pay.

Spotz Gelato

Spotz Gelato has location in Versailles and Georgetown. (A Lexington location is closed for now.) Spotz has loads of flavors and you can order through Grubhub for delivery.

Sweet Lilu’s

Sweet Lilu’s in Versailles does custom cakes, desserts, including luxury chocolates, and other baked goods. So many different kinds of cakes! Call or order online at sweetlilus.com.

Sweet Matriarch in Georgetown does custom cakes and cupcakes. But she really has a sensation on her hands with her Cattywampus Shakes. Launched on Facebook earlier this spring, these “over the top” shakes drew hundreds of calls. And with Blue Bell ice cream, handmade desserts, icing and more, you can see why. Full menu coming soon.
