As the region prepares for a blast of winter weather, the University of Kentucky has canceled all in-person activities and events scheduled for Sunday, the university announced Friday night.

The Gatton Student Center will also be closed, the university said.

UK HealthCare facilities, including the hospitals, will be open and operating on a regular schedule.

Because classes have not resumed for the spring semester, most students are not on campus, UK said in a media advisory. The semester begins Jan. 13, according to the university website.

Kentucky is under a winter storm watch, with snow and ice accumulations expected in Central Kentucky on Sunday and Monday, followed by low temperatures the rest of next week.
