What’s open? What’s closed? Here are non-school closures for Central Kentucky

Kentucky is hit with significant winter storm

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for many areas of the state.

Most state and local government offices closed Monday due to Winter Storm Blair, which knocked out power to more than 8,000 Fayette County residents and dumped up to 5 inches of snow in many places.

All state government offices were closed Monday.

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government’s offices were closed except for essential personnel responding to the winter storm. There is no trash, recycling or yard waste pickup on Monday.

On Sunday, Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton declared an emergency and put public safety personnel on 24-hour shifts to help with snow removal and other snow-related emergencies.

Also closed Monday is the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, the Fayette County Clerk’s office and the Fayette County Public Library system. The YMCA of Central Kentucky also closed all of its locations.

The University of Kentucky was also dark Monday with only essential personnel required to report to work. All UK hospitals remained open. Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond was operating on a limited snow plan with many non-essential personnel working virtually.

Lextran, the city’s public bus system, was still operating Monday but on a limited schedule. To find out more about what buses are running go to Lextran.com.

Flights were also canceled out of Blue Grass Airport on Sunday and Monday morning. Airport officials are asking people to contact airlines directly for more information about arrivals, departures and rescheduled flight information.
