Fayette County Public Schools has canceled classes on Tuesday and Wednesday, opting for a traditional snow day amid Winter Storm Blair.

The decision comes as the storm dropped several inches of snow across Central Kentucky on Sunday, followed by about a quarter-inch of ice Monday morning, followed by a few more inches of snow Monday afternoon.

“After careful consideration of present road conditions and out of deep respect for our road crews, first responders, line personnel, and others who are working around the clock .. across our county, we have decided to close schools on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, and Wednesday, January 8, 2025. These days will be considered closures, NOT Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) days,” said district spokesperson Dia Davidson-Smith.

All evening and after-school activities are also canceled on Tuesday.

A decision about Wednesday evening and after-school activities will be made Tuesday.

The traditional snow day means district employees whose work calendars follow the instructional calendar are off.

Employees with extended calendars will need to consult with their supervisors to determine whether they should work remotely or perform other job duties.

“Please be sure to also check our website www.fcps..net and social media for district updates as the week continues,” Davidson-Smith said.

Several other Kentucky districts have canceled classes Tuesday and Wednesday.
